Target Size treats 100KB as a maximum, not an exact output. A 100KB target may produce a 98.7KB JPEG — the goal is to stay within your limit while preserving the highest possible quality.

Target: 100 KB
100KB is a comfortable middle ground — it covers online forms, profile photos, application uploads, website images, and email attachments, while leaving more room for visual quality than extremely small targets. As a rule of thumb, a typical phone photo reduced to 100KB keeps enough detail for on-screen viewing, while print or large-format use may need a bigger budget. Results still depend on image dimensions and content, so the preview is the final judge.
JPEG compression reduces file size by removing image information that is less noticeable to the human eye. At 100KB most photos keep plenty of detail, though very large originals compress harder than small ones. If the result looks soft, enabling Resize to a smaller dimension before compressing often reaches 100KB at visibly higher quality than quality reduction alone. CompressJPEG searches for the highest quality setting that produces a file within your selected limit.

Almost always. 100KB leaves reasonable room for quality on typical photos, and the tool searches quality 100→1 for the highest setting that fits.
100KB satisfies many online forms, profiles, and uploads — but limits differ per form, so always check the stated requirement. If your form demands less, use the 50KB or 20KB page instead.
Yes — up to 20 images. They are processed one at a time so large batches don’t freeze your browser. Download individually or all together as a ZIP file.
Yes. Compression runs locally in your browser — image bytes are never uploaded to our servers. The compression library itself loads from a CDN, so the page needs internet once, but your photos never leave your device.
